My nylon and silver jewellery relates to architectonic shapes and forms that, despite their tiny scale, bring to mind thoughts of urban life. My enamelled silver jewellery can be viewed as tiny canvasses that, in contrast, echo the colours and textures of the natural world.
East Anglia provides me with good light and open spaces plus a sense of calm - but it is my travels through built up town and cityscapes, the clash with natural forms, that feed my sketching and making. The man-made environment always offers up new and dynamic shapes and lines that I explore via 3D construction and a playful approach to colour. I aim to have clarity and purity of line to my work, dispensing with details that do not need to be there. All pieces are handmade so whilst some designs are repeated, they are never identical.
I am the ‘Objects & Space’ coordinator at Colchester School of Art and have exhibited my work nationally and internationally since first graduating in jewellery design in 1991 then gaining Distinction in M.A Sculptural Practice in 2011.
